That's not true if you look really hard. True I suppose if you just have to live near the loop, I suppose.

I used to live in Barrington Place, houses are reasonable and unless you call Pakistanis and Indians who mostly program computers bad elements....

I'd say Jersey Village.

I use to work in Westchase and my biggest obstacle was the Beltway and 290. JFC! But once I passed 290 it took me 15-20 minutes to get to I-10. 15 on a really good day but now they're moving like molasses with construction near Hammerly so it can get ridiculous.

But Jersey Village is a good area. Also, look into the Heron Lakes/Windfern area. It'll put you right at the Beltway.

Ditto. I sometimes take the beltway from my house to I-10 to avoid the 290 traffic and it usually takes 10-20 min or less to reach the Memorial City area. Worth the $2 in tolls each way sometimes. We live right behind Jersey Village and there are several nice well maintained neighborhoods off West Rd between the beltway & Jones Rd in the $100-$200K price range. Our neighborhood is $170-$300K and the elementary school is great. Look at Westbridge(~$150-$180), Winchester Country($100-$150), Winchester Village & Winchester Meadows,($150-$200), maybe even Winchester Trails, ($175's-$240's) Windfern Forest is not too bad either ($100-$150) but is east of the beltway. Willowlake and Willow Point are in the $150-$200K range, but are zoned to a less desirable elementary school. Look in the 77064 and 77040 zip for these areas.

Good luck!

Pearland? 150k is a very tight budget even in the burbs. I am not sure if you can find a good school with that kind of budget.

I live in Grand Mission subdivision in Richmond and work in dowtown Houston. Homes in the $150K are plentiful here and schools are very good in my honest opinion. Commute time is about 35 minutes without traffic.

I would suggest Jersey Village as well. I have friends there who rave about the schools, and the area is nice enough. I love visiting--they have a big backyard; it's quite and peaceful afaik. I would also suggest Richmond or even Rosenberg. These are areas where the schools might not be as great, but the home prices will probably be a bit less even than in Jersey Village.

I recommend Meadows Place - a small city between Houston, Sugar Land, & Stafford - about 7,000 people

Elementary school is excellent. The police are active. Very kid friendly place. Housing should be in your price range. Most people in Houston don't even know it exists.
