I about screamed bloody murder the other night when I was walking into our garage and got smacked in the face & chest by a couple while stepping on a few. My skin crawls just writing about them!

Not too keen either on those huge daddy-long-leg mosquitoes that invade corners of our house and then proceed to die. At least they don't bite.

Luckily, have not seen a flying cockroach since we left The Woodlands (wasn't to crazy about those either!). Those did cause me to scream down the house and scare the cr*p out of my then-babies.

Great topic, CJ!
Ahh those are Mosquito Hawks! They are good to have around since they prey on the mosquitos! They can be annoying though at times when they get in your house.

Mosquito hawks (aka crane flies) don't actually eat mosquitoes. I always thought they did though.

I am never having a meal at your house without a pre-planned menu, elnina.

Actually, I love the spicy fried grasshoppers fom Oaxaca.

Here is what good PR does - almost no one dislikes Lady Bugs.

When i lived in Houston, I couldn't turn my pool lights on at night in the early summer, because it would attract June bugs. Mosquitos, ants and wasps were constant problems in the backyard. Chinch bugs invaded my lawn every other year, despite my best efforts. Spiders occasionally found their way into the house. We were mercifully free of roaches in my last house, but had them in my previous two. There was also some kind of infestation of mites in one of my palm trees one summer that looked like it might eventually bring down a 15ft. Mexican Fan Palm, which I luckily caught in time to save the tree.

Yes, Houston provides an interesting habitat for insects. The Mosquitos were the worst of all in summertime. It often put a real damper on outdoor enjoyment.

Yeah we've had June bugs since about the 10th of March. When a cold front blows in it makes them dormant, then a couple days of warmth and they swarm after sunset.

2-3 weeks after they disappear is when you need to treat your yard for grubs. The bugs come out, do the tango, then head back to the grass to lay eggs. 2+ weeks later, the little grubs hatch and that's when they're the most vulnerable to pesticides. If they live on, then they grow larger and go deeper during the summer, then come up in the fall to chew on your grass roots. The more you know!

June bugs don't bother me. The giant spider I found in my bed the other day did. I also tend to get gnats around the apartment no matter how clean I keep it. I hate this time of the year.
