Ok, I've contacted David the Locator to get a preliminary feel of available rentals in Houston. I've also been browsing his site for available units and will follow up with him the closer we get to our move date.

Now I'm wondering if anyone has advice on when I should start applying for jobs. I'm assuming that it is too soon to apply for private jobs right now, but what about state jobs? Does anyone know about how long the process is from application to interview to hire?

I won't actually graduate with my 4 year degree until August, in fact my last class will be August 20th. My degree will be a double major of Accounting and Business.

I applied for one state job already and they called me 3 days after they got my resume, and I explained my situation and the HR lady said she would be keeping my resume on file. I was shocked, because up here in Minnesota it usually takes at least a month before they call you. Is 3 days typical for state jobs in Texas?

My husband graduates in December and I had planned on us beginning to apply in July. Here, it takes FOREVER to find anything, so that was our plan. I can leave any time, so I wouldn't turn down a fantastic job, but he can't leave until Dec 19. Good on you for getting a call back so quickly!

Thanks, unfortunately I was unable to follow through with the job since I won't graduate until August, but it is nice to know that my degree is in demand at this time, and hopefully it still will be in August.

It is a relief, that's for sure. I'm really excited about the job prospects for both of our industries (Physics and Communications)
