I have asked him twn times to cite stats to back this up. He never does. Houston is one of the safest large cities in the country and Houston alone has crime rates at 30 year lows!!!! And I HAVE posted these stats.

Positives: you mentioned lower cost of living, friendly people (on the outside), great food (if you like it greasy)
Conclusion: economically makes more sence , especially having kids but there are some intangible things in life that are simply not here, at all.
Good luck!
These types of posts always come across as trolling. Why? Because it's hard to believe anyone is that stupid to not research the area where they are going to move their entire life. I mean, I spend months just investigating which gym I'm going to join. Before I moved to Houston I knew more about the area then most people who lived here. How can you not know what Houston is like before you moved here? I just can't wrap my head around this.

That's a good point. It's like people come here blindfolded. I can see being surprised by the culture and other subtle nuances, but come on - the weather channel keeps archived data, and it's not hard to figure out the topography of your new home from google maps. (That's if you move here sight unseen as it appears some folks are doing judging from their posts) Guess someone didn't get the 'moving-to-Texas' memo.

The city is extremely ugly with 'Inglewood looks' everywhere in Houston. Artificial lakes are created but breeding swamps for bugs. Suburbs are nice but infested with crimes. BREAK INS and vehicle theft, window smashing happen everywhere and these can not be avoided. Thugs attempted to burglar and rob everyone who don't look like thugs. Sorry, IE still beats Houston in all aspects. I really wish hypes about Houston and its rapid economy growth can balance without a more rapid increase in violent crime incidences.
I must be living in an alternate universe.

Where is all this horrendous crime you are talking about because I just don't see it? "Infested"? " Break-ins, window smashing", it sounds like absolute mayhem with roving bands on the streets looking to rob anyone that moves. Total rubbish!

I think he is referring to Mexico City. He won't cite a single crime statistic.

We moved here from Northern CA (Sacramento) a couple months ago, and we love it! We had visited friends here a couple of times before making the move, and that was during the summer months so we figured we had a pretty good idea of what the weather would be like lol And in Sacramento it regularly hits 100+ in the summer, so minus the humidity I don't think it is that different really. We also researched for months and months about the area we were moving to (The Woodlands) and unlike some people moving here apparently, we chose to move to TX because we like the culture and lifestyle far more than CA, where as others have noted you can live in your neighborhood for years and never speak to your neighbors once. There are many other personal and economical reasons we chose to move, but I can definitely say we love it and don't see ourselves ever moving back to CA

To Jek74...before you call someone a troll or stupid, you better have the facts. I have families who live in Sugar Land area and I go back and forth many times. So it's not like I know nothing about the place and make decision to go there. I don't and never will know Houston like the people who live there so that's why I am asking. I asked my family members and of course they all say good thing in favor of wanting to move there. I did many researches, look at statistics, etc... But I am asking for opinions. The reason I am asking so that I can set my expectation. I believe expectation is very important factor on whether or not you will like something.

I wasn't calling you a troll, I was calling JoshRall a troll. He has gone on about 20 different threads saying the same thing over and over that crime in Houston is going through the roof. That comment would be just fine if he backed it up with some facts. He has failed to do that despite being asked. By definition, he is trolling. I have no idea what you are referring to.

That is an affluent suburb, no? I don't think it should be different culturally, aesthetically, safety wise, etc. ( much, minus the piney woods) than what I laid out.
Uh, The Woodlands and Sugarland are in the Houston Metropolitan Area. And Josh, may I suggest stop hanging out in the obviously bad neighborhoods?

I can't think of anything appealing about Sugarland. It's flat, the trees are tiny. Why would you move there?
