I am certainly not old folk...not even close but even at 18 or 20 years old I would have thought that was a very immature name. Yep just get up and announce your band telling everyone that your from Houstoned and see how many record promoters find that impressive.
Yeah, you never see bands with cannabis leaves on their album covers. Or see t-shirts with purple haze on them.........

I've never heard either of those terms either, having lived both inside the city in addition to current suburbs. I've always worked in the city too. Then again, I don't hang with the prison gang or hip-hop crowd, perhaps it is only used in those circles. Whatever... they probably call Austin Austoned too.

PS - I looked up several different sources for lists of cities with highest levels of drug use, percent of population using drugs, drug-related deaths, etc... Houston was not on any of them.

Its not a common reference used by people with salaried jobs. Maybe popular with folks that like the cough syrup/jolly rancher purple drank.

Just like people were promoting ignorance back than when everyone was fawning over and praising those cracked out pedophile rock musicians back in the 60s and 70s.

It's a cycle; it's just repeating itself. No need to feel superior because your circle of friends don't use the word.
