Good Afternoon Everybody,

I am a poet that lives in Richmond, VA. I was thinking of relocating to Houston sometime next year and wanted to know everybody's opinion on the poetry scene in Houston. Does Houston have a strong poetry scene? What I mean by poetry scene is having a good amount of open mic nights around the city that let you read poetry and that have poetry slams as well.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

I remember a few years back when I used to visit this place called the artery, they had poetry readings, dance, music and a whole bunch of eclectic stuff.

I don't know about poetry slams or open mic, but UH Creative Writing program is one of the best in the nation and I see people constantly going to events and readings around the Montrose area organized by the university or other non-profits. A couple weeks ago a few friends were busking at an event organized by one of these non profits (maybe Inprint? dont really know) and they got paid a little. Not exactly what you are looking for but I'm sure there's plenty of poets here that enjoy open mic and do it.

Yes, I've been to several of those in the past. There were lots of University of Houston people there.
