Rats are everywhere -- city, country and suburbia in every climate throughout the world. Why freak out about seeing one? It's no reflection on a person or neighborhood if the occasional rat appears in one's yard or runs across the utility lines or fence along the property easement.

As far as having them in the house or garage -- find out where they're entering and fix it so they can't get in.

Min Pins will switch into feral mode and fly spreadeagle through bushes to take out rats, mice, possums as well. It's actually quite a trip to watch.

Most terriers will do the same. It's in their genes. They were originally bred to go after any small creature that moves.

Yes, Terriers are much better at chasing and killing rats. I saw one running across Cypresswood near Kuykendahl the other day. Nasty.

my mom lives next to an empty lot in eastwood territory and she's noticed that when the owners don't keep the yard short, she tends to get rats/mice in her house. since her house is an older house and hasn't been kept up very well, it has lil holes here and there so it's easier for them to get in..

i would say that as long as you don't give the mice something to hunt for, you should be ok. keep your kitchen area clean of leftovers and such. and also keep the grass nice and trimmed

But I guess a dead rat is better than a live one... I suppose since it was headless there is some form of predator around. Cats, probably.
Yes. The only good rat/mouse is a dead one, period.

I don't like cats, but if I had a rodent problem, I'd certainly have one...I hate rodents more than I dislike cats, which definitely do have their place. A nice big bullsnake would be handy to have on the premises, too!

We don't tend to get rats but we do have a young possum. They look like cross-eyed giant rats to me!

More rats = more unsanitary. (black plague)

Even elephants know to stay away.

Don't know about sanitary conditions in my neighborhood. After Rita, a neighbor was returning after dark and noticed something moving on the side of my house. He got his big oil field flashlight out and saw a rat. We took care of it. We no longer have all kinds of bird feeders and squirrel feeders.
