What about Trendmaker? I was under the impression that they were one of the better builders too.

San Antonio, too.

And you're right. You have to do your research from all angles.
Just like with cars you can go online and find complaints about ANY make or model.
I'm just telling you what I came across during my research and it was a SHOCKING difference with Lennar vs the other major builders in our area. Look for yourself. It was enough to put me off and go with another builder who actually got GOOD reviews. YMMV.

FWIW, Village now owns Lennar. We owned a Village back in the late 90's for about two years and it was nice house.

We just signed with Trendmaker on a new build.
We have been impressed so far.
From what I've seen, they are up there with Highland.

I would add to check with your city's permit office to see if they have a list of builders. Here in Bellaire, the code restrictions are a bit different. At one point I went to the permit's office and they gave me a list of builders/contractors that have done businesses within Bellaire and meet all the requirements (insurance/bonded, etc). I ended up buying a house that was already built by Gregory Homes. At the time of purchase the house had been sitting unsold for 1 year. The inspector gave me good reviews, except for a few cosmetic issues that were quickly corrected.
