I want to take a class at HCC over the summer but the campus is pretty far from my house, here is the google maps route.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Str to 6815 Rustic St, Houston, TX 77087 - Google Maps

The class is from 8am-10:30am Monday-Thursday for 5 weeks, so how bad would the traffic be on my trip there and back? Is it worth it?

Ouch! I'm no morning rush-hour person, but that looks awfully scary. Not only is a long distance, but it looks like you would be going through a prime traffic zone.

There might be alternative routes that might be farther, but end up being quicker and easier (i.e. dealing with less traffic). I'm sure Google only picks the shortest route; not necessarily the smartest one. You might try different routes and see which is best.

Hopefully, others with current freeway experience will chime in.

I wouldn't want to do it, but in reality It is less than 10 minutes from downtown going out, unless you are going at like 4:30 in the afternoon. People commute from Katy to downtown all the time, so add 8 to 10 more minutes.

Thanks. And yeah, it has 2 other routes listed. How would the traffic be on them at 8am going towards downtown and 10:30 going back to katy?

Thanks for the answer, but I don't get what you mean by "less than 10 minutes from downtown going out." ?

Do you mean on my trip back to katy at 10:30 it would only take 10 minutes?

And when you say "people commute from katy to downtown all the time, so add 8 to 10 more minutes.", Do you mean when I leave for class at around 7am that it it will take me 40-42 minutes to get there with traffic taken into account?

If that is what you mean then it doesn't sound too bad to me actually... 40 minutes there and 10 minutes back 4 days a week for 5 weeks. That is very manageable imho

No HCC campus on your side of town? That commute is terrible. But I guess sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. Good luck on whatever you decide.

No. What I mean is whatever the commute time is from Katy to downtown, obviously a "normal" commute for many, then add another 10 minutes to get from downtown to the campus. So I guess it would only be about a 10 minute longer commute than the average Katy downtown commuter.

I used to live right by your starting point and would occasionally do the drive to downtown from there. Oildog is spot on on his times. Add more if there is an accident.
