some people i know say rule of thumb is 1% (including tax) but most of them own 250k homes or less.

The 250k thing is key. Economies of scale.

Try 77025. It is right near the medical center and west u (just south actually) and you can get a great 3/2/2 one story home for around $350-450K. Great families around there too!!

77025 is great also check out 77096 & 77035 also parts of 77004 is great only about 5 to 7 min for down town
