We live in South Florida and we lost our shed during Hurricane Wilma. We are in the market for a new shed. I've researched the sheds available locally and wasn't really impressed with their construction.

Have any of you replaced a shed recently that is well constructed and could withstand winds of 140 mph?? Your recommendations and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would contact a contractor and have one built to your needs. This way you can have the doors on one side and a ton of storage to either the left or right. Just have the contractor anchor it down to the ground. IMO you would be much more happier. these pre-fab sheds they are making are not worth the money.

We have been going thru the same debate.
We bought a place smaller than what we have been in, therefore need storage for our furniture until the house is built.
I checked out a few storage areas and was not happy. I did not feel that our stuff and husbands load of tools would be safe.
That brought us to looking at sheds. Well, my husband, being a heavy timber specialist, will not buy anything he can build.
He did appease me in looking at them. We even had one picked out. For the simple fact it would be quicker.
Needless to say, I lost.
He is determined to build his own. He know he can build it stronger for less money.
I have to agree, the amount of money they want for a tin can shed with poor quality of craftsmanship, is ridiculous.

Aside from withstanding a storm, are these sheds REALLY secure. Seems to me that you could just about put your fist thru the right spot.
I'm curious, if you don't mind, have you price them?
We are in a different state than you. We were looking at a 12 X 24 that was priced at $4,800.00. Is that comparable to what your seeing???
Thanks

We are looking for two different size sheds here. :-) Your pricing is about right and the material is like a soda can. I did see a site that sold plane hangers and also a much smaller size that might work for you.

There is a shed made by Arrow that is Miami-Dade approved and it is sturdy - the problem is, is that it is 8 x 10 and we need a 6 x8 or 7 x 8.

Lowes sell this for $998 and I have seen it on the web for up to $1,500 - big difference. There are two places on the web: bettymills and storagesheds - I may just buy the kit, reinforce it and be done with it.

O.K. definatley a difference size LOL !
I have already accepted the fact that it will be built ! Broke ground yesterday actually. What is amazingly wonderful in our new location is that there are no zoning or permits required. Heaven !!! We have just finished the fence and the deck (with exception to the roof).
Our (hubbys) estimate will on the shed will be approximately 1/2 of the manufactured one.
I still feel that the quality of a manufactured one is not worth the price. (It would just be quicker)
Yes, I am inpatient !

Just thought you might get a kick out of this. My husband informs me that he and a couple of construction buddies of his are building the shed this weekend. We live in a "permit or we'll pull it down" area -- for sure it will be the strongest shed in the entire city. I guess this means good luck to both of us! :-)

LOL LOL LOL

I REALLY didn't see that one coming !!!!
Are they going to complete it this weekend ? LOL
Since my husband works 6 -12 hour days, I am praying he will be done by the end of the month. Should we have a contest to pressure the guys ?
Well, if they do it on the weekend and you get along with your neighbors, you might get a way with it.

We lived in an area that you pretty much had to have a permit to flush a toilet !

Good Luck, let me know how it turns out.
