what is this spider? (it is about 1.5 or two inches long!!!)
is it poisonous? we just finished our basement about 6 months ago and it's completely clean and neat. No holes to the outside, etc. every area covered...
come to think of it though, i have a sump pump. that could be the place where they are coming from.
anyway, this one is the biggest/baddest one i've found.
after screaming like a girl, i killed it. so, tell me, how bad of a problem do i have?
i found one of those just outside my house and it had like 200 babies that were eating a dead bug on my porch.... as soon as i shined the light on them, all the babies crawled up on to the mother spider and it ran off.
They are ugly common pests. They aren't any more venomous than a normal spider, though since they're big they will cause significant swelling and itching. Just shine a light on it and it will run away (like others have said). It is easy to trap them and release them, saving you from having to kill big spider guts.
I've posted this in several threads but it bears repeating... I had ceramic tile installed throughout my entire house a couple of years ago and started seeing huge spiders by the floor molding after that. I know spiders play an important role in the ecological chain but I dont want that chain perpetuating in my house. So I spray inside the garage and outside the house perimeter, as well as around the floor molding, with an awesome bug spray every 6-8 months.
It's Bengal Gold Roach Spray...a dry spray that is amazing. I havent seen one bug inside or outside since I started using it.
