Hi all,
This is going to sound really odd [warning there will be spider pics, I advise the squimish to exit this thread]
Okay, outside my window there is this family of Comb-Footed Spiders. I have grown very fond of them. I have watched several of the babys "hatch" from the tiny white sac. (I used to despise almost all spiders except for the granddaddy long legs). I have have been seeing them out my window for over a month now. Keep in mind that they are outside, on the other side of the window so I have nothing to fear.
Well late last night in the wee hours of the morning I was awoken by this strange "tickle" on my upper arm, I thought it was fuzz or something but it startled me enough to wake me up. Then I saw something move quickly, it was a large (quarter size) wolf spider (the jumping kind). I darted out of bed and had to get my best friend who is my roommate to smoosh it for me. I am so afraid of those kind of spiders.
Now here is my dilemna, I know that "ortho" makes a product that you can put around your room that keeps those nasty spiders away. I don't mind getting that but the thing is I don't want is to kill the lovely comb-footed spiders that are outside my window, what do you all suggest.
Thank you in advance for your advice on this matter.

Well, I for one would not smoosh them just because they are there. I would find a way that is non-toxic to keep them out of your room since you dont' want them there. The problem with using something to kill off the wolf spiders, will probably kill off the cute spiders too.
Seal up any cracks around doors, windows, floor, since they can easily squeeze through tiny spaces. Do a thorough cleaning of your home, under your bed, in the closet, etc to find any hidden spiders.
Spiders do nice things for us by keeping other bugs like ants for one, out of our home. Most of the time, they will not bug you if you do not bug them. Good luck.
I don't kill spiders in my house either. If they are where I spend my time, I catch them and move them into one of the spare bedrooms or the basement. In the summertime, I may put them outside.
Now, when one of my cats finds one.............oh well..........RIP.
There are all kinds of scented things that will naturally repel spiders: coconut oil, orange peel, mint, cloves, chestnuts. Pick a scent you like and sprinkle your room with it and the spiders will avoid your bedroom, without dying.
No bug is cute to me I dislike all of them so I'm with Ortho, the more I have the happier I am.
