Has anyone had any experience with the new solar-assist heat pumps from Lennox? The system has a solar panel which powers the outside fan and claims to reduce electricity usage by up to 8%. They're expensive but qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $4500, bringing the cost down considerably. Beyond that, is this just a gimmick? I'm thinking also of future maintenance issues with the system or with the panel (which being roof-mounted might be a problem.)

I can find few online comments talking about these. Most of what's out there are news releases or dealer advertisements.
