I've just heard of these electric heaters which are supposed to be really good as a supplement heat source. They don't dry the air etc. However, how well would one work in an open floor plan where the kitchen, living and dining room are all combined? Same question, if you put one in the basement which has an open staircase?

Does anyone have one? Pros and cons please

THX

We received one as a Christmas present last year. It is in our family room, which is part of an open floor plan (FR, kitchen, breakfast area). It worked fairly well at first, but I would not buy one. I get very cold and I had to move the heater right next to me to get any warmth. It did not heat the family room very well let alone a large open area. Now we might have gotten one that just doesn't perform as well as others, but I would get rid of it if it had not been a present. The gift giver meant very well and visits often.

Thanks for an honest and quick reply. Did the heater skyrocket your electric bill?

No, it didn't affect our electric bill, at least as far as we could tell. In the past year, Delaware's utility rates have gone up 64 percent so it's hard to tell. However, we used this in place of our gas fireplace. Not sure what we will do this year. I keep an electric blanket on the sofa so that may be all that I use.

Using any of these small space heaters are only going to heat a "small space" and the amount of heat you need depends on the temperature difference between outside and inside and also keeping the thing running 24 hours a day to maintain the heat.
This heater is only rated for 1.263Kw and they "claim" 5000BTUH. 1Kw = 3438 BTUH so this heater is only 4342 BTUH.
Depending on heat loss in a room you could figure needing 24 BTUH for each square foot of room space.
The big thing is, you have to leave them on all the time to maintain the heat. They don't heat a space quickly.
