Does anyone know a good non-stick coating to apply to the rubber weather-strip seal around a front door? I painted the front door a few months back and noticed that the paint pulled off onto the weather-strip. I applied some Wurth rubber treatment, but this didn't seem to make any difference.
When I had a pro painter do my front door, what he did was run a wide strip of masking tape over the weatherstrip. Not on the door, on the weatherstripping itself. Paint did not stick to the dry side of the tape. It may not matter, but he did use that green stuff. (Frog Tape ???)
Most weather seals that come preinstalled on pre-hung doors are replaceable, and can be found at the local hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Have someone who knows about these things show you what to do. It's not very difficult, but you have to know the type of seal used, and how it mounts 0n the frame.
Also, it sounds like the door was not painted with primer first and the paint used did not stick as it should. You shouldn't have a problem with the paint peeling unless you didn't give enough time for the paint to dry. Remember, oil-based paints take a long time to dry, and depending on the temperature at the time of painting, can take days to dry.
The weather-strip installed is a somewhat more rigid construction than the type of seal pictured. When we did our addition last year, the builder commented that he preferred the type on my doors and that it was hard to find now.
Didn't use any primer, so that could certainly be part of the problem. Used a Sherwin Williams exterior paint, don't think it is oil based.
The silicone bulb does not stick to latex paint and as an added bonus provides a better weatherseal. I have been implementing it for many years with better end results.

Thanks. Have a link or specific product brand you recommend?
