I have an older door that was reused with the frame in a new home. The bottom of it for a seal uses the brass spring seal. It is older and really doesn't seal anymore, I took it out and put in new brass spring. But the door is pretty close to the floor so if anything is behind it (entry mat, etc) it bends the brass and I have to take the door off to replace it. Anything else that people here recommend?
Most doors today use a multi-finned sweep seal. However, they also require the correct type threshold to seal properly.
Spring bronze for the bottom is a bit unusual, but it does work. It is also the best seal you can get- unfortunately finding someone who knows how to do it is pretty much impossible today.
For the cost and time/labor to switch out the sweep and threshold- you could get a whole new door unit installed (insulated steel door, with compression weatherstripping and sweep seal with adjustable threshold).
hmmm - I bought the brass spring seal at ACE and did it myself. A glass slab door is $700! I really want a new door but a 36" all glass slab door is $723. (so I don't have to take out the jamb....
