I'm personally hot a huge fan of people who put garlands of flowers, vines or other fake plant garlands.

I;m not a fan, but from my experience, many people are.

I think It's a good idea for you to put an artificial flowers. If it is greasy, you can take off and clean the flowers. Then add some cute wallpaper to make the kitchen lovely, add delicate floor rugs, make it cozy. How about this kinds of home decor, I bet you will like it.

I have a collection of Roseville vases on top of my cabinets. When I do my annual cleaning, I just put them in the dishwasher.

I bought this inexpensive step stool to reach the vases when necessary. The lower step folds up so it doesnt take up much space at all. And it's the same shade of stain as my cabinets so it looks right at home in the kitchen:

I like some of these ideas:

The Story of Home: Above the Kitchen Cabinets

I have large colorful ceramic pots on the tops of my cabinets. I haven't had a grease problem, but I haven't placed anything close to the range. So, perhaps this helps.
