I have a mildew and or mold smell coming from my he front loader washing machine ? I was thinking that maybe the Tide brand washer cleaner product might help , if you have used it please let me know if it worked or a waist a money . Also has anyone else expierienced this odor from their front loader ? If so and you got rid of it please let me know what you did . Also im afraid if something does not work I will have to get rid of the front loader and get a top loader .I really like the way the front loaders clean and the idea of using less detergent and water appeals to me as well . Thanks in advance for any help and or answers .

Do you run a bleach cycle (as my manual advises me to do)?
Do you leave the door open to dry out when not in use?

I do both and have NEVER had a problem with mildew, mold or smell....

Your problem is caused by using liquid detergent. Liquid detergents have animal fats in them and for some reason they can clog up the drain tube in front loaders. Being animal fats, it begins to stink. Switch to powder and most likely the smell will go away. If it doesn't you will need to clean out a drain hose in your washer.

I read about this on the internet after our washer had a smell. We applied this practice and no more smell.

I had this problem with mine and had someone come and look at it. He told me to periodically run a cycle with baking soda and vinegar. I have done that (every few months) and havent had an issue with smell in the last 2 years.

Unfortunately, some front loaders are designed in a way where it only accepts liquid (typicially a funnel-type dispenser). I know some Maytags were made that way. Our Samsung washer though uses a slide out tray that accepts either one, and we mostly have been using powder because of the smell issue.

I ONLY use liquid... regular (not HE) even!
No smells or problems.

Front loader washers are airtight (unlike a top loader); if they can't dry out they will eventually get nasty. We leave our washer door open normally so it can dry out after a wash and haven't had any stinky washer problems.

I could pull back the rubber seal around the door opening right now and show you the mold growing inside. It's nasty and yes, it stinks. We run the cleaning cycles and it still does it. We also try to leave the door open so it dries.
I will never buy a front loader again.
It's a very common problem.

??
How do you "try" to leave the door open?
Either you do, or you don't, right?
