How much should it cost to purchase and install a 20ga steel entry door. We got a quote for $1200 to purchase one from a company and have them install it. Bear in mind, the frame and all is rotten so that all has to be replaced. Is this high?

We are looking for a new entry door and storm door. We just got a quote for a fiberglass door with some glass at the top of the door and a storm door with a screen and glass, fully installed for $2800.00. Sounds super expensive to me! We have another company coming out this weekend, they gave us a rough estimate over the phone of around $2000. I was hoping for around $1500.00 total.

I bought a Jeld-wen, pre hung for 99 at HD and did it myself. Fairly difficult project. I'm going to add a steel security door on top for 85 USD.

I'd go to a big box and buy the prehung door that fits the hole. If you don't want to install it find a local handyman. Bet you can get it all done for <$500 bucks. Door cost I think is under $250. Big box store have online instructions if you want to read how. Cut the old one out. Shim the new one and screw it in. Trim it up. Paint. Sounds easy. There are always suprises!

I just installed a pre-hung steel-clad, insulated front door, a standard 32" x 80", in a 6-decades old farm house for $128 from Home Depot. Add $50 to $80 for decent new hardware if that too needs to be changed.

Had a HD patio door installed.
Door - $600.
Pickup & delivery by friend - $30 - drinks & snacks on saturday night
Removal and disposal of old door. $5 - my labor, gas money to bring & donate door to local charity.
Temporary covering - $0 - used old plywwod and lumber laying around.
Handiman to install door - $250
Misc supplies to fix frame - $40
Handset - $75
Misc interior paint, moulding replacement, exterior painting and fixups - $25
The biggest unexpected cost was the handset which I forgot to budget.

What it will cost you depends on the door your buying. If you buy a $1,500 door and spend $500 for installation, a $2,000 installation cost is correct just as if you bought a $400 door and spent $500 for installation. Without knowing the cost of the door itself, can;t say if the price is high or low or just right.
