The master bathroom makes a LOUD groaning sound when you flush first thing in the morning. We suspect it is air in the pipes? Is this what you think it is? If so, how do you fix? Also, is it hurting anything right now? i.e. is anything going to burst?
Could it be a loud gurgling? I don't know about groaning, but if it were gurgling I would suggest that the vent pipe may be blocked. It's the pipe that exits the roof to let air in behind the water as it flows down. If it were blocked by something like a bird's nest, dead roof rat, or ???, air couldn't get in to replace the water that wants to leave. You'd get a gurgling when you flush the toilet that can be rather loud. It's a thought.
Only two things come to mind-
One, the shutoff valve at the toilet isn't completely open- and may have some sediment buildup around it. Close it completely, then reopen all the way until valve stops.
Two, the PRV for the house is going bad- and there is a build up of water pressure (more than there should be) in the house over night.
Sounds like it could be the toilet water shut off valve. Sometimes the valve washer will flutter or groan like that if it is loose and it is opened just the right amount. Usually opening them further or closing them a little bit will stop the noise.
Okay my husband replaced the toilet refill valve (tower piece on the left side of the tank) and the noise is gone! Thanks for your comments.
