I'm thinking about a french door refrigerator. I thought I would skip the ice in the door, since I'm kind of a "keep it simple if possible" person. But when I did some preliminary looking, it seems like you have to really bend over awkwardly to get the ice out of the freezer.
Anyone here have any experience with this and your thoughts?
I am in the same boat with you and went for the clean look outside with the ice in the bottom. Sure it's a little bit of a reach but you're likely not going to go for the ice every single time you open the fridge.
We've got a Samsung that's set up as you describe, and it's really not a big deal. Sure, you've got to bend to get the ice, but you've got to bend to get anything out of the freezer, so I really don't see the problem.
If you've ever had an automatic ice maker in a top freezer without a dispenser, you know it can be awkward to reach up and grab the ice. It's much easier to reach down to grab the ice in the french door models, in my experience.
I was at HD this evening and looked again. Guess it's not as awkward as I originally thought, and I don't care how you lose a lot of door shelf space in the ice-in-the-door models. I think I'll take the increased ketchup space, cheaper price and less-to-go-wrong over a little bending!!

Hey, I bet we have the same one
I love my freezer, and it's not awkward at all to get anything out of it. Even at 6'3"
Take a look at the new LG's. The entire mechanism is on the inside of the door and none of it is in the freezer compartment. it takes very little room in the door.
