I've just moved to N.C. and I'm so excited to be moving into a home next month. It's thrilling (and overwhelming). I've been "window shopping" for furniture to fill the rooms because I sold most of everything before leaving Chicago.
Recently, I ran across a dining table and buffet that is absolutely gorgeous. It's from a private seller and he says he does not know who the manufacturer is. I'm relunctant to spend the amount he's asking without having some idea if I can find matching pieces later and the quality of the product.
Can you look at the photos and help me narrow down who may have designed or sold these pieces?
It these are true antiques, you probably will not find "matching" pieces but you will find period pieces. From the pic, the rug looks very much like my antique souruk. If it is, I would grab that to go with the furniture. The thing is, if you like it and can afford it, buy it. If you are not sure, find an antique dealer who can take a look at it.
This does not appear to be a "matched set" as the woods, stain and design are markedly different. The manufacturer's name should be stamped on the underside of the main leaves of the table and on the inside of a drawer in the side buffet.
To me the dining table/chairs do not appear to be antique. Lovely but not antique. The wood appears it could be pecan or walnut.
I'm unsure of the buffet as the photo is too dark to see much detail. The reddish finish indicates a red cherry stain or possibly a refinished mahogany.
Thanks for looking at it for me. I do not *believe* these are antiques. The seller says they are about a year old. I asked him to look for a stamp on it, but he said he couldn't find it. I don't know if that's true or not, but it does seem odd. I also checked with the store where he said it was purchased and the sales person did not recognize the set.
Thanks so much to you both for your insight on this!
The table and chairs are Thomasville, the collection was discontinued a few years ago, but I remember it. Its made in China.
Not sure about the buffet, its not a very good pix, but I bet its not an antique.
Thomasville will have a stamp on the underside of the table and the chairs.

Thanks. I did not think either piece was an antique and they were not advertised to be antiques. I really like the "look" of the detail, but I was unsure about the *quality* because he claims to not know the manufacturer.
Thanks for giving me a lead on Thomasville. I will see what I can find in that direction.

I doubt if you will find any info online, as I said, its been discontinued for a a while now, but I know without a doubt it IS Thomasville, I was the designer for the local Thomasville store here, and sold quite a few of those sets....wish I could remember what is was called.....
Its a lovely set, well made, and def worth what he is selling it for.
