Is 46 years old too old to take up hockey?

Go for it.If you're worried about skating there is also deck hockey.If you're not familiar with it,it consists of running instead of skating and a solid plastic ball instead of a puck.I played for about 6 seasons and it was my favorite.

If I could skate, (and could afford to take lessons!), I so would. I used to play street hockey with my friends as a kid, (I usually was the goalie) and always had a blast.

Too late to become competitive and professional obviously! However never too late to learn the basics and having fun with it! :P
