The way I understand it, the Mongol Empire started in the Gobi desert, then expanded to the Pacific Ocean, then westward towards those towns known as the "Golden Ring"(the towns I saw on that map) and onward to Poland and Romania.

I was referring to eloy's last map. It reminded me more of fantasy computer games. When I think of sci-fi in this case, I think of Stalin's attempt to make a human/orangutan hybrid army.
