AKRON, Ohio – A retired FBI Agent from Summit County is making claims regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy that go beyond conspiracy theories.

Don Adams speaks clearly and concisely when describing the events of November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was killed, and he doesn’t waiver from his position that Lee Harvey Oswald did not kill President John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

It's amazing (even before this thread and FBI story) that we still don't have a clear understanding of who killed Kennedy. With all the manpower and all the forensics and all the resources - it is still not clear in the public's eye.

Well Charles I think it's pretty clear that Oswald killed Kennedy but no doubt conspiracy theories have spawned quite a little industry.

How clear is that?
"In 1979, the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) agreed with the Warren Commission that Oswald assassinated Kennedy but found its report and the original FBI investigation to be seriously flawed. The HSCA also concluded that at least four shots were fired, that with "high probability" two gunmen fired at the President, and a conspiracy was probable."
"A 2003 Gallup poll reported that 75% of Americans do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. That same year an ABC News poll found that 70% of respondents suspected that the assassination involved more than one person. A 2004 Fox News poll found that 66% of Americans thought there had been a conspiracy while 74% thought there had been a cover-up. "

75% of americans also think aliens captured Elvis and he is playing for Alpha Centurians.
...OK I am making that up, but people just love conspiracies. The HSCA findings was based almost soley on some old scratchy dictabelt recordings and have since been dismissed due to better audio technology.

This topic, like "causes of the civil war", is one that comes up here about every 6 months.

The public is packed with morons, I honestly don't care what the "public" thinks. At this point, no matter what is *discovered* the public will never be clear on this topic.

What FBI story are you referring too? There really wasn't any story there on the hack-job website.

I agree. But doesn't it seem a little odd that compared to several other famous assassinations and murders (Lennon, the pope, Night Stalker, MLK, Manson Family, Reagan, OJ, etc) that a US presidential assassination is so controversial? (OJ is controversial on racial lines. A lot of Blacks think he is innocent, a lot of Whites think he is guilty.) Why is the JFK assassination not conclusive and not a slam dunk? Why are there doubters and conspiracy theorists for it and less so for others?

JFK, RKF, MLK...all have coverup and conspiracy theories. Look at the 9/11 conspiracy theories. I still read about conspiracy theories for the Lincoln assasination.

There is a pychological need for people to create a greater reason, a purpose, for an event of such magnitude. The simple reason, some loser with a bolt action rifle, is not enough. People need a greater purpose in a tragedy to fill their own emptiness when they think about the loss, otherwise it seems like a simple wastful and meaningless end. Which is exactly what it was.

I agree that the linked story leaves a lot to be desired.

I guess I still believe Oswald killed the president. His behavior in the time afterward (killing Officer Tippet) indicates some guilt (true, killing a police officer walking towards you does not mean that he killed the president, but it all is a bit to coincidental to me).
