I'm sure this has gone around a million times, but I haven't been on this forum in forever. Who has gotten their children the shot? What ages? I have children from 16 mos. to teenage years and I've been on the fence about this for so long. Especially with the little one, I get scared.
We're in Northern New Jersey and I've noticed that pediatricians aren't big advocates of it, yet other health professionals (mainly nurses), health departments, etc. are. And for some reason, they even seem more informed than my own pediatrician.
My grandkids got it last Fall, at the time ages 5.5,4, and 15 mo. No problems, no side effects. I also got it at work, age 67, no problems, no sore arm, no side effects.
I have 2 year old twins (well, they were 20 months when they got the vaccine). I got them vaccinated as soon as we could last fall, because at that age, it would have been difficult for them to deal with a high fever or any of the other symptoms of the flu. Also, I am pregnant- due any day now- and knew it would be difficult to deal with two sick kids while heavily pregnant. I also got the shot myself (I don't normally get the flu shot when not pregnant), due to the potential for extra complications for pregnant women. None of us had had any side effects.
Thank you all for your responses. I went ahead and got it for them, better safe than sorry. I will get it too, however, I was on antibiotics the week we went and they won't give the shot while on meds. Thanks again, I have better peace of mind knowing others chose it for their kids.
I am of the mindset to avoid the flu shots seems everyone I know that gets the shot gets the flu... I'll take my chances.
