Well since everyone is looking for the fat burning elixer here's an interesting article about scientst's in Japan feeding mice a high fat/caloric diet and those in the study given high amounts of vinegar lost more fat than those in the study not recieving any. They supect the compound ''Acetic Acid'' may be responsible for Vinegars benefits.
Who's going to drink "high amounts" of vinegar every day? However, I've read/heard some reasonable health benefits from using vinegar, but not the over-processed kind. Apple Cider Vinegar that is in its natural state seemed to help with many ailments.
I think it is healthy to consume it myself, but they don't say if they fed them straight distilled vinegar to different types so it might be more agents at work as well. I love using apple cider vinegar for making home made pickles, the taste is fantastic, but the mystical and extreme cures often touted on the web are way too far fetched. Even some increased health benefits are good, and good reason to include more in your diet then big portions of junk.
I've taken apple cider vinegar with a high-carb meal after a workout. I think it does a great job of improving glycogen repletion. I would just take a small shot-glass full. I think it could be useful for a high-carb "cheat meal" while dieting, especially if taken with r-ala.
As for weightloss, acetic acid can supress phosphofructokinase-1 in muscle which would slow down glucose conversion to energy, which would force your body to use fat stores for energy instead. It won't make a huge difference, but it's inexpensive and every little bit helps.
If you do try this, I would suggest that you take a little bit of sodium bicarbonate or potassium citrate along with the vinegar to counteract the high acidity from acetic acid.
