Hi everyone...Noticed that last night my pinky and ring finger on my left hand was tingling..kinda feels like it is asleep. Have also noticed some weakness and slowness in my left hand ( yeah I know that sounds weird). I am not left handed and have not had any injury to my hand. I do not sleep on my left side, so I don't think that has much to do with it. There is no pain nor discoloration on that hand. What could cause this? We are out of state on business trip so I do not have a DR in this town. Is this something I should be concerned about? Hubby thinks we need to rush home, and I told him to give it a couple of days. Is that the right decision? Thanks for any suggestions!!

I've had that when I've had a crick in my neck or upper shoulder area. Maybe it's just from sleeping on a different pillow or in a different bed, since you're traveling?

the older we get the more often this happens, both with feet and hands/fingers. If it continues, yes, at least tell your doctor, but just a few times means probably nothing. I was in my late 30s the first time I had trouble and I had it pretty bad. I did go to the doctor, I did have tests and it was s pinched nerve in my neck plus a slightly slipped disk. I had some theropy and in no time the problem was solved.

I slept on a too soft bed almost a year ago and did something to my arm. Uninsured, I've just let it work itself out but its taken almost that entire year. I noticed when I made my bed the other day that the pain is 99% gone now. I'd say especially since you are traveling to let it work itself out or deal with it after you get home. Maybe one night in your own bed will fix it.

Sounds like you pinched your ulnar nerve a bit. I'd give it a week and it should sort itself out. If it persists, it might be something like Guyon's canal syndrome (the ulnar nerve version of carpal tunnel syndrome) and you should get a doctor to check it out.

Definitely sounds like a "crick" in your neck or shoulder.....amazing what a pinched nerve in that area will do to your hand! It should resolve on it's own...but can take a couple weeks. Unless it really gets bad, I'd wait it out....hot compresses or standing under a warm shower with it bathing your neck/shoulder helps.

Pain Free by Pete Egoscue. About $15 on Amazon. Great book for back and neck pain. I do the "stretches" (positions really) in this book when I tweak my back and it really helps. Hope you feel better.

Acupuncture works wonders for this kind of stuff, OP. I'd give it a shot if it continues to get worse. Are you in any sort of profession where you use your hands a lot, like typing, guitar-playing, sign language interpreting, etc? That can aggravate any entrapped nerves and then you might want to look into some kind of maintenance (like monthly acupuncture) to keep things at bay. To get more for you money, if you do acupuncture, ask your acupuncture to write down the points and then you can look them up online and use your own fingers to "hold" those points on your own time at home. Acupuncture is about the energy, not the needles, so it has the same effect.

Be careful leaning on your elbows, keep your arm unbent as much as possible in case it is the nerve running down your arm. This might give you some relief and certainly won't hurt anything if that's not the problem.
