Oh god, I'm going to sound quite naive when I say this, but I seriously thought black people couldn't get sunburned! I've always believed that crazy myth for some dumb reason. I have medium tone skin (slightly darker than caramel) and figured that, while I may get a bit darker, I won't actually burn to the degree some of my fairer skinned friends do. I came back from an outdoor music festival in TN where I spent a large chunk of time in tank tops, leaving my shoulders and my upper chest exposed. Now I'm a very, very dark maroon on my back and my skin is peeling off like crazy. My shoulders were a bit painful to the touch last week, but that seems to have passed. All this despite putting on a thin layer of sunscreen (I admit, it was a VERY thin layer, put on only once during the early morning hours ). I was w/ my friend who is even darker and even she got some peeling by the end of that weekend, though not as bad as me (some of my other friends weren't as lucky. I have w/ a pale, freckled buddy who left TN looking like a boiled lobster!)

Being quite new to this, any way I can speed up the skin renewal process to get rid of this uber dark tan? It's weird having the top third of my body several shades darker than the rest (nevermind the horrible tan lines!). What should I do about the peeling? Is regular lotion enough or do I need something else?

Blah, I've been way to complacent. Figured being of "Caribbean stock" would keep me safe. . Don't know how I could survive the actual Caribbean sun!

Nothing I know of will hasten the process. I am very fair and had my share of lobster days. Aloe gel us quite soothing when you are still in the hurts-to-touch stage. Now any good moisturizer like Cetaphil should help.
