Hi Everyone,

We're visiting Maui, the Big Island and Oahu soon with six year old twins. Can you recommend great eating for families?

I'm particularly hoping to find spots that aren't on every tourist list.

When I visited Oahu as a kid with my parents, we loved Patty's Kitchen in Ala Moana. Is it still there? Still have char su boa and black sugar boa? God, they were good.

Those are the kind of places I'm hoping to find: great spots for hamburgers etc.

We also loved Farrell's, an ice cream spot in the International Marketplace. Is that still there??

The Oahu from my childhood in the 70's was such a wonderful place to visit -- I haven't been back in over twelve years and I sure miss it.

We always stayed at the Ilikai -- my dad worked summers over there -- is the Ilikai still a good stay for families?

Anything for kids/families VERY appreciated.

You sure are living in an incredible spot on earth.

TIA!

Alicia

Ok
I love the Big Island so much Im moving there in Dec. Yay!!!!
so do you like Beer? if so you have to go to Kona Brewing! great food and the beer is OMG! the best lol!. They used to have a great cream soda on tap to (my wife loved it ) If you want a nice night out on the water try Huggo's .
LuLu's is a fun place to have pupu's and drinks dinners are good also its kinda like a bikers bar but better all fun. If you want to a real nice dinner try the ManaLoa Hotel Waikola (if my memory is correct) the name of the restaurant escapes me atm. But for the best breakfast as stated before its the Big Island Grill ono Grinds!.

Have fun on the trip!

If you're on the Hilo side and you love beer give Mehana Brewing a try.

I live on Oahu and would recommend Teddy's Bigger Burger and Kua Aina for tasty hamburgers. They have Farrell's but its now located in the Windward Mall. Yes, Patti's is still in Ala Moana with a large local food court you'd enjoy. It might be nice to take a drive to the North Shore because they have popular shrimp wagons along the way and you could also stop for a local favorite shaved ice. Another restaurant with good local food--Big City Diner.
