Does anyone know what the commute and time would be like going from Harrisburg to Pottsville? I've never been to the area and I'm just wondering if there is a lot of traffic on 81 in the mornings going up towards Allentown? Mapquest says its approximately an hour from one city to the next but would there be any traffic is what I'm wondering. I'd be trying to get to Pottsville by 7am and then leaving to go back to Harrisburg at 5pm.
Thanks.

The traffic shouldn't be much of an issue for that commute.

You'll be going I-81 splitting off to I-78 and the traffic congestion will depend on where you're getting on 81 in Harrisburg. Historically the traffic in Harrisburg is either fine or horrendous. One overturned tractor trailer truck of which there are many, or one bad accident can shut down the major corridors for hours. Because of the many roads that intersect in Harrisburg [turnpike Rt 76, I-81, I-83, 22/322, 11/15 things can pile up in several directions in a hurry. Are you taking into account the time it would take you from I-78 into Pottsville? You may want to do a test rune so you don't run into a big surprise regarding the commute. Good luck and watch out in winter time, it gets very icy up that way on I-78.

Thanks! I'm not sure where I'd be living in Harrisburg or where exactly I'd be going in Pottsville yet, but I appreciate the information, it's hard trying to plan a *potential* move without having been to the area yet. Any good suggestions of areas in Harrisburg that are easy to hop on 81 from? I'm looking for an apartment, since its just me! I should be up that way in a few weeks to check it out, so I could test out the commute as well!

You should try the commute on a Thursday morning, the day of heaviest truck traffic on the interstates. For at least 6 months of the year heavy fog can be a problem as you drive to higher altitudes along I-81, and black ice forms from cold humid air on I-78 where the terrain is pretty flat for Central PA.
