Hi,
I am considering moving to Norfolk (got accepted to a PhD program at ODU). I don’t know much about the area but I’ve found out on the internet that is pretty expensive compare with NC (Winston Salem) where I currently live. I am interested in renting a 1bedroom apartment in an area (no more than 700$/month, friendly area, safe) close to ODU (let’s say no more than 15 minute driving). Could anyone give me any suggestions what to look for and where? I will basically make a decision if I move to Norfolk based on the housing situation.

Thanks a lot!

on west little creek rd. there are some apt. called colonial heights or something to that extent. they were cool and like maybe 5 or 10 minutes away from ODU. there are several other ones in that area (WEST little creek rd.) hampton blvd. they were reasonable also. for VA. lol

Not sure what kind of person you are, like super quiet all the time or work hard but know how have a good time type but aside from that, I personally think $700 will work best with roommates. If you desire to be close to campus. As a general rule, this area is kind of pricey if you want a decent place not in the ghetto.
I'd say drive around the neighborhood some here, look for the RENT SIGNS, write some numbers down and go from there. I have seen a couple in my neighborhood. My neighbor has had a 1BR for rent for a few weeks now and it is $600 Sewage and Trash included. You pay Electric/Gas, Internet/Cable. I have seen some more in my neighborhood as well when I skate or walk. I live appx. 5 minutes from ODU. I found my place in the Virginia Pilot btw.
