No, you showed that security guards were shot, and not open carry were shot, BIG difference. Were they shooting at the gun or the uniform ? I say the uniform. They usually wear a uniform and badge, and carry on a police style belt, nothing like painting a big sign on them.
Lets see what a open carry wears, same thing as everyone else,
When a criminal comes in to rob a place, he is going to take out the greatest threat first, if he sees someone who looks like a security guard, then that is the threat, he will not pay attention to someone who looks like a customer. They will not have the time to look at everyone's belt line to see if they are packing.
Two people in the store where the suspect is robbing the place. One is unarmed, the other, someone open carrying a pistol.
Now tell me who the suspect will think is the greatest threat?
Thank you.
You really believe that people committing crimes aren't looking for the person who has a gun? Then how is it that plain clothes police officers are shot? Now tell me that doesn't happen.
Lets put it another way:
You are carrying a firearm. You are in a store. Two individuals inside are in the process of robbing the place. They are between you and the door.
Good so far?
Okay, one of them has a gun, the other does not. The one without the gun starts walking toward you as the one with the gun watches you. You do what?
1. Lay down and beg for your life.
2. Give them your gun and hope for the best.
3. Draw your gun and demand they drop theirs.
4. Shoot the unarmed criminal
5. Shoot the criminal with the gun and then deal with the unarmed one.
What is your choice?
Criminals are always looking for the biggest threat and if you are the only one with a gun you are the biggest threat. If you really believe that criminals aren't looking for the person who has a gun, then not much worth saying anymore, you don't get it and probably never will.

Yes, a criminal is going to go after the biggest threat, which means a guard in uniform, regardless if he is carrying a gun, or not. If he simply has a utility belt on with pepper spray, handcuffs and a flashlight, chances are he is going to be perceived as the threat.
Again, we shouldn't look at it as singular. If open carry was an acceptable mode, it wouldn't be singular. Think of it this way. The thug walks into a 7/11 and 4 of the 5 customers are open carry folks. Does he shoot 4 of the people, or does he turn around and walk out? If the threat has better odds, he walks. If open carry was the norm, and not just one person out of 500, the populace would be a more polite one.
Most criminals are going to be so hyped up that they will see a security guard but not a armed citizen, They don't take the time to enter a store and look around, they blast thru the door and go straight for the cash, think about it, he sees a large leather gun belt and holster, yet a civilian is wearing a holster high on the belt and has the gun partially concealed by his arm, which is going to stand out ? The human mind is sometimes not able to see what is right in front of them, it will allow them to see what they are looking for, but over look others. There was a video of a store robbery where they did not see the customer wearing western gunbelt with a 45, too bad, they did see the 45 just before they got shot with it.
You can play all the scenario games you want, the only one that matters is the one that really happens. I open carry, Why, because I can, I also conceal carry, why because I can, but my conceal carry is putting on a jacket because it is cold.
You can't compare a uniformed/armed security officer with a plain clothed armed citizen. The guard is put in the way of a high profile/worth target and the average citizen is not. The type of criminal each may interact with is different as well.
Criminals that go for the bigger scores probably have more organization and planning than the average thug looking for an opportunity from a hapless victim.
Apples and oranges! I'm not saying they never cross over but I would bet that would be more anecdotal than common.
What it comes down to is even if you are not in favor of open carry, that is up to you, there are just as many who are not in favor of concealed carry. Don't force your opinion on the open carriers and they will not force their opinion on you.
I started to open carry because I don't believe that I have to be finger printed and under go a background check like a criminal, then sit in a class to carry a weapon, at that point it becomes a "privilege" and ceases to be a Right. Before someone says about the requirement for training, I have seen some of those that have gone thru the training and they scare the crap out of me.
I couldn't find the word "concealed" anywhere in the second amendment.
I support open carry, even though I would nearly always want to keep mine concealed (ugly black plastic).
I just don't want to be arrested for taking off my jacket. Shouldn't be a crime.
