I'm moving from Europe to the USA (South Carolina).
I reload ammo since I was 18 (I'm 50 yo now...), and I ask to myself wich powder will I use in the USA.
Here in Italy we mostly use the vihtavuori for rifle charges (.223, .308, 30-06), and local powder (i.e. fiocchi, born for shotshells) for guns caliber like 9x21, .40 or .45
What powder do you use in the USA ? And which costs ?
1 kg of Vihtavuori costs here aroung 95 euros (it means $55 per pound).

I suggest you get a copy of Lyman's Reloading Handbook, which lists many calibers/bullet combinations and the various powder loads that have been tested. It's about $20 for the soft-bound copy, or you can look up a lot of the tested loads on-line.
Then you can check out the cost of the powders of interest to your reloading needs.
Good luck finding reloading components when you get here. Powder and primers are very hard to find right now. That being said, you can get VV for around $30 a pound. uS brand powders can be bad between 15-25$ per pound depending on type. It all depends on what you want to reload.

It will get better, it already is. A few months ago you couldn't find anything reloading wise. Now some of the less popular powders are coming back in stock. The popular powders come in and to out same day. Primers are still hit and miss but getting better. It will probably get back to somewhat normal by the end of the year, maybe spring 2014.
There is another website that you can look into, and that is www.loaddata.com it costs about $30 dollars US a year, and it has several hundred thousand loads on the website, in a multitude of powders & and caliber sizes. I am sure you can find a powder at the store, and then find a load for it on the Website. I had to start using it more, and started to use the powders that I had not heard of due to low supplies. But hear in the US, Reloader, IMR, Hodgdon, all make rifle powders just to name a few. And you will find that each ones has several different types of powder for just certain types of rifles. so good luck in your search, you can always ask the sales help at the store what they recommend.

Bullseye for .45acp and Power Pistol or Win 231 for .40s&w.
About $16 per pound....WHEN they have it.
Could cost up to $20 now.
How much will 1 pound do?
There is 7000 grains per pound.
Charge wt/7,000. = rounds per pound.
Or take 4.8 grains (ex .45acp) of Bullseye and divide into 7,000.
Powder is the least of your concerns as a reloader. I'm seeing .45 cast bullets going for 15c each, by the time that they are actually in your hand.
