I just recently moved to Greenville. My girlfriend and I like to go out to eat quite a bit. I have seen a TON of chain restaurants everywhere, however, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any locally owned restaurants in the area. We generally eat at moderately priced places, but on occasion also visit higher end establishments.
95% of the restaurants downtown are locally owned or aren't chains. The Stax's restaurant chain is only located in Greenville and is locally owned. There's many others in the area too which Skyliner can list.
Lieu's Bistro on Woodruff is Locally Owned (non chain) and is awesome. (Dinner for two, no alcohol, $30-40 bucks)
Liberty Tap Room in Downtown (west end) is one of three restaurants in SC, owned by TBONZ group--technically a chain, but it doesn't feel like it. Best She-crab soup in Greenville (Dinner for two, no alcohol, $30-40 bucks)
Sassafrass in Downtown---not my favorite but lots of people love it (Dinner for two, no alcohol, $40-50 bucks)
Smoke on the Water--Delicious--Downtown Greenville.
As stated earlier, just about all of the places downtown are locally owned and most are reasonably priced, but there are a few that will take you well over $100 for two.
Some more good ones:
Chicora Alley (mexican/caribbean)
Bohemian Cafe (a bit of everything)
Blue Ridge Brewing Co.
Saffron's (the Indian restaurant on Woodruff AND the sandwich shop downtown)
Portofino's (Italian)
Thanks a lot guys, Ill be sure to give these places a try
