I agree! When it got dark as night, it felt like something out of the Bible.

Woodruff traffic is better than normal, womp womp. 85 is effed all the way to Blacksburg though. Seems everybody has decided to leave at once.

It was probably the perfect storm. People leaving close to rush hour. At least it was moving. There were stalls and onlooker delays along the way according to the news. It reminded me some of going up 85 after a Clemson football game and that's usually on a Saturday late without rush hour traffic too. Many cars moving the same way.

Absolutely amazing! The first few minutes we had a cloud, but after that it was like G-d brushed the clouds away and we had clear blue skies, until the very final moments.

We could hear people cheering, like us! Somewhere in Greer we heard fireworks.

Placed a sheet on the front lawn, porch pillows and we were all set. Layed there and watched the magic happen.

I was at Southbound Santee SC Rest Area for the event. We arrived 10:30; it was jammed and we drove down to the south end of the parking to find a spot. Ended up under the trees and did not even need our tent for shade. Cloudy up until 1:00 PM then completely clear.
The moment of totality is like a magic trick. The Sunlight gets dimmer and dimmer and is a fading golden light, the BAM! Diamond light around the sun and the Moon actually looks like a round ball passing in front of the Sun.
All around the horizon was the light you see at sunrise or sunset. As the Moon uncovered the Sun I could still see the darkness in the clouds to the East. As the light began to return we could see palm of your hand sized crescents from the light shining down through the trees.
Most amazing thing I've ever seen.
I -95 jam was difficult so we took a side route northbound.
Praise to SCDOT and SCHP for a clean area, nice restrooms and no hassling about parking.

Nova had a special on PBS about the eclipse tonight, it was so interesting, I learned so much, and wished I had known some of this info before.

Thank-you Clemson for hosting spectacular event!
It was worth the 5.5 hour drive back to Atlanta.
