Colonialism is why they're so ****ed up. You realize colonization was not good for these nations, ever? It was slavery, stripping the colonies of resources.
Do the resources now benefit the people or the rulers?

So? Why is that our problem? What right or obligation does the U.S have to govern some other country?

Let them be poor third world countries.
But what about all the refugees from these loser countries trying to seek asylum in First World countries?

Because of the past, it shouldn't be the US, UK or France doing the colonizing, but Sweden or Denmark with their successful socialist cultures. But there would be a problem with it being white people doing the colonizing again.

Ideally it would be black countries colonizing black countries, and Hispanics colonizing Hispanic speaking countries.

Foolish original post.

The entire idea of colonialism was the invasion of foreign nations and the creation of colonies there to harvest resources to be sent back to the motherland and exterminate or oppress the natives of that country.

At no time was colonialism carried out in "good will". That is the cultural lie of "the white man's burden" in the 19th century to justify the invasion and oppression of other people.

If you want a country to grow and stabilize, capitalism is currently one of the best options out there. Form business ties and help developing nations prosper economically. Just look at what China is achieving in Africa by investing in their businesses and infrastructure, rather than what the west does by flooding their economies with free material aid that undercuts entrepreneurship.

You're right. Colonialism is very similar to slavery. The belief that your country has the right to own another country, own it's resources, and own its people. It's simply immoral.

I thought about this many times, have a rich country adopt a poor country, it wouldnt be so much a colony but a ward.we would get some of the natural resources and they hopefully would stabilize into a safe peaceful country. The ward country to have to completely agree to this.might not be a bad idea but then again the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

No one is going to just sit back and let us do this. Third world countries are poor but they are manufacturing Mecca’s, with Africa being the new up and comer. China, Russia, other industrialized nations who do business in these countries are not going to just sit back and let us decide it’s ours now. Also taking control means taking responsibility for that country’s citizens. We can’t even restore power to a tiny territory like Puerto Rico or fix our own bridges here, but suddenly we are going to take on responsibility for countries with crumbling infrastructure, outdated sanitation, disease and malnutrition?

Also don’t forget many third world countries grow terrorism, once we make them a territory they are free to come here.

Tell me what products are made in the Central African Republic or Zimbabwe. And if the African countries want aid, that doesn't come without strings, i.e. control. Would you give an 11 year old an allowance, no strings attached?

I do t know what’s produced in each country, only that a lot of companies are now moving their factories there because wages went up in China. Whether they should or shouldn’t get Aid or need overseers wasn’t my point, my point was the rest of the world isn’t going to just sit back and watch us become some kind of empire.

Again though we can’t even get power to tiny Puerto Rico, the infrastructure there is still a mess, our own infrastructure is a mess, why should any country trust us to take care of them? Why does anyone here think we are capable of doing so?
