Rather meaningless figures for "major urban centers," I think. Those are CITY populations, within city limits. Far more meaningful are GEORGIA METRO POPULATIONS below:

Atlanta metro, 2010: 5,286,728
Atlanta metro, 2020: 6,089,815

Augusta metro, 2010: 564,873
Augusta metro, 2020: 611,000

Savannah metro, 2010: 347,611
Savannah metro, 2020: 404,798

Columbus metro, 2010: 307,788
Columbus metro, 2020: 328,883

Macon metro, 2010: 232,293
Macon metro, 2020: 233,802

Athens metro, 2010: 192,541
Athens metro, 2020: 215,415

Wow, so it looks like Columbus is now the state's second largest city again

Yes, but state's fourth-largest metro, which is the more important figure.

Won’t be long before Athens surpasses Macon.

You still fail to realize Lee County, Alabama (a stones throw across the Chattahoochee River) has 175k. I imagine it will combine with the Columbus metro in the next decade or two.

You fail to realize that by that time, metro Savannah will have gained Beaufort-Hilton Head, SC (240,000) and perhaps also Hinesville metro or Statesboro Micropolitan. Savannah's growth is far more dynamic than Columbus. Also, metro Augusta might gain a couple of counties by then. Lee County, AL joining metro Columbus is every bit as speculative.

It is an arbitrary census rule based on commuting. I think it misses a lot too. I work in Macon, but more than half of my office lives in and commutes from Warner Robins, yet their 200k metro area is considered a different place. Doesn't matter in the end I suppose as business uses population within xx miles vs arbitrary boundaries.

Good news is that all of the metros grew.

Agreed. I look at Macon and Warner Robins as one area just like I do Columbus and Auburn/Opelika. Even LaGrange could be thrown in there.
