Exactly! You're the one who started the crystal-ball gazing, which seems to be a specialty of the Columbus Forum. They've been predicting an explosion in population and a re-definition of metro Columbus boundaries since at least 2004. Meanwhile, metro Savannah, Augusta, possibly Macon will be enlarged too. Back in 2000, Columbus and Savannah had around the same metro population. In 2020, Savannah has 76,000 more residents.

Savannah was the real winner but Columbus (city) surprised everyone.

Interesting you follow the Columbus forum so closely. You seem to be really interested in what is going on here. Can’t say the same for the Savannah forum.

Why not? I lived in Columbus as a kid. Have also lived in Athens and Savannah.

@CDW-1084: The real 2010-2020 takeaway for Georgia is that the three BIG-GROWTH metros were Atlanta, Savannah, and Gainesville. Metro Macon showed flat/no growth, and metro Albany continues its steep decline. That's the news.

It's how many WARM BODIES live there, FOY. Geographic (county) boundaries are the least significant stat of all. U.S. Census doesn't count raccoons and possums.

Here we go again lol why do these threads always turn into this?….Good to see that all of the metros mentioned grew from the previous count especially considering some midsize-small cities experienced a decline in other states.

Very true. Georgia's main metros showed solid growth. Those in Alabama and Mississippi didn't do so well.

You're right, but metro COL also gained one county over that time. U.S. Census always shows the "apples-to-apples" comparison (i.e., same counties in 2010 versus the same counties in 2020). Otherwise, it would be apples-to-oranges and an invalid growth comparison.
