Bloomfield, Connecticut is a highly Jamaican city that's usually listed as fairly good on crime plus okay to average on poverty. Although, for whatever reason, the smallish Asian community there seem to be much poorer than Connecticut average.
The opinion on these boards seems to be fairly positive on Bloomfield, but with complaints about the schools performing poor and the taxes being high. Still this is a better verdict than most "majority black" towns tend to get here.
Miramar, Florida is another town with a large Jamaican/West-Indian population that seems to do okay on crime and poverty.
Uhh, not really... The crime is usually below national average in MT.V (not for the past cpl years, but still not too high above national average) and it's 60% black.
You try looking for a town of 70K population that is 60% black thats had below to at average crime.
someone said detroit... They have SO many problems
In 2010 I would say :
1-Washington DC
2-Houston
3-Dallas
4-Atlanta
5-Austin
Don't forget Phoenix, AZ...Phoenix is definitely on the rise for African Americans.
It is up and coming, but the percentage still is relatively low. You will see Blacks throughout the area though.
Another Western city that might surprise people is Las Vegas. A lot of former LA residents that are Black are moving there.
Columbus OH, Denver, Seattle, Minneapolis and Madison WI are sleepers in terms of having close knit Black communities, their share of educated Black folks and even seeing Blacks in leadership positions in spite of their relatively low Black percentages.
True....Oakland is still holding it down and there are some very nice areas of the city with high Black percentages. It is still the Blackest major Western city in the US.
Miramar is a nice area. Low in crime and they have brand new developments out in the Western part of the city that is very nice. But there is crime there. Some parts are pretty heavy.
A good city for Black Americans would be any city with a strong Black aristocracy. The top three in 2010 would be, in this order.
DC
ATL
Philly(was the original haven for free blacks, and was at the heart of the abolitionist movement)
