Texas is huge. Yes, West Texas is ugly and desolate which is why I don't live there either. I don't like dry, desolate, hot places.

This summer has been very nice in Texas. San Antonio as only hit 90 a few times so far. Phenix has failed to drop below 90 a few times this summer. ( Last year that happened 46 times)

Not to mention, Phoenix never dropped below 90 degrees for a record 28-night stretch during the summer. “2020 has pretty much broken every other heat record,” wrote Amber Sullins, chief meteorologist at Phoenix's ABC television affiliate, in an email. Oct 14, 2020

The point being Phoenix is hotter than any place in Texas especially the populated areas. Yes, Texas is hot in the afternoon, but most mornings start out in the low 70s and it comfortable 8 PM - 11 AM most of the summer.

It wasn't 28 consecutive days, they were broken up, there were 2 stretches of 7 days though, which each tied the record longest stretch

Average lows in the Texas major cities are in the mid to upper 70's in July and August, 80°F+ lows aren't unheard of, and you guys have humidity

Ill grant you that the eastern half of the city is industrial which makes it unattractive. But Houston is the lushest, greenest major city in Texas. Were in the middle of a giant forest.
The Strip areas ain't cute but I don't think the rest of the city is ugly. And the metro is definitely not ugly. The area is so lush and varied. Fort Bend county is pretty especially around the Brazos area. Brazoria county was surprisingly pretty too especially around the Angleton area. Galveston county has the beaches and Wetlands. The Wetlands around Anahuac are really interesting. Then you have the rolling elevations of the northeast counties and the northwest counties towards Brenham are beautiful too.

Also, the older/ established neighborhoods around the museum District, heights, Montrose etc are just charming. Even the cheaper neighborhoods lie Garden Oaks are charming.

Yeah the wards are rough and the 1950s-70s strip areas are not attractive but the city/ metro as a whole is not. I didn't know there were that many waterways and national forests/ national managed areas in the Houston area. It is very lush and green.

Houston is miserable in the summer with the humidity. San Antonio and Austin are slightly more tolerable, but that stuff starts right before Memorial Day. 90 degree weather with that type of humidity is certainly miserable.

Having lived in both Phoenix and San Antonio I can assure that the East Valley is way hotter than San Antonio/Austin. Anytime we get over 100 down here the dew point it almost always at or below that magic 60 degrees.

Hottest average temp by climate site (this takes into account an entire day)

Austin 86.5
Phoenix 94.8
San Antonio 85.5

Also no, lows in San Antonio are never in the 80s. Even in our most humid days it might "feel" like 80 with the humidity but a low of over 90 in Phoenix feels like 90 as the overnight is most humid part of the day and you only loose 1 or maybe 2 degrees on a very dry night.

Now Phoenix shines is the winter for people who do not like the cold. Texas is colder in every part of the state except the Rio Grande Valley, but their weather is awful down there in the summer.

The two states are just not very similar at all. Texas is more dynamic having more large population centers, but I can see why people would like Phoenix and other parts of the state. Flagstaff is stagnate, but the Prescott Velley is taking off and Tucson is slowly humming along.
