Watching livestream of US census on NYT

So far, almost all major metro areas in the rust-belt have seen a population increase outside of I think Syracuse.

Chicago grew by 50,000!!!

New York grew by 600,000!!!

Houston grew by 300,000

Los Angeles grew by 100,000

Philly grew by 100,000

San Jose grew by 75,000

Dallas grew by a little over a 100k

Phoenix grew a little over 150k.

They clearly prioritize their mission of redistricting data over public-oriented PR.

Of course there's no reason why a couple people couldn't do a summary report with 10 pages of basic data, released at the same time!

Philly came in at 1.602M. About what we expected

Houston came in slightly below at 2.304M

same for LA at 3.898M

Same for Phoenix at 1.608M

WOW. LA still doesn't hit 4 MM - but holy hell on NYC. Refreshing numbers!

Yes, the lack of public-facing user-friendliness is pretty maddening.

Phoenix has finally passed Philadelphia for 5th biggest city. I actually think that Chicago, which had, by far, the slowest growth of the top 10 cities, may actually slip to #4 in a decade. Houston is just incredible.

The US is
18.8% Hispanic
12.3% Black/African American
.. and 61.6% White Alone? That seems high.

I missed the other ones...

I say sometime in the 30s, Houston will pass Chicago if that growth continues. But 50k or not, to see a positive for Chicago is encouraging. But NYC....sheesh

Only 12.3% black? Wow, that's under what was expected which was over 13%.

Whites may slip to under 60% once they fix the undercounts.
