I know we see it a lot, not to mention it's done a lot. Some Movies being filmed in one location but set as another City. This happens a lot for cost, tax breaks or other reasons. The US largest City is one that is played by other cities and sometimes Fake sets. My question is what other major US city has the potential to play New York without much touch up to play the role? Who could do this the best? My top choices would be Philly, Detroit, Chicago, and Boston. I think I could think of countless other smaller cities that could play the part of a New York City Street.

Chicago downtown could be Manhattan. Boston neighborhoods could be Brooklyn, as could parts of Philadelphia.

The last Fast and Furious movie used Cleveland as New York, and I believe the Avengers and Spiderman 3 did as well. Nobody batted an eye.

Manhattan? Accurately? None. If we're just going for arbitrary tall buildings, I suppose Chicago would be the logical choice.

Chicago loop sort of midtownish

Boston DT could play the financial district

Philly could sort of the do the DT, could do the village or brownstones fairly well and BK or Queens would be an easy fill in most ways I think Philly has more places that could be similar due to development timing, proximity and nearly identical weather and local materials used early on for building

Rittenhouse has doubled as Manhattan probably at least a dozen times recently, can always tell when they are filming a NYC set here with all the NYC cabs that role in

uber doenst have the issue

many others as in film its fairly easy to pull off

I was just going to say Toronto. I think Canadian locations play US locales more than cities here in the states.

Interesting topic but it’s a hard city to match up. I guess Philly for me except for all the buildings no city can match that. Chicago I don’t get that comparison-it’s a different look with too many plazas and building setbacks and just too spacious in general. Plus when the movie calls for perps being chased down alleys we know it’s not NY.

I’ve heard Toronto does a lot of dubbing in movies.

Los Angeles has been used as a stand in for NYC more times than you guys realize.

Think NYPD Blue, Seinfeld and some movies that are mainly shot at night like Suicide Kings
