Dang you SWB, every time I post photos of my state you have to one-up me with amazing/beautiful pictures of your state . I have only really driven through, and spent a small amount of time in Pittsburgh, but after seeing your pictures I know there's a lot I am missing out on. Have you ever thought about working for the Visitor Convention or something? You sure do a good job making me, and probably many others here, want to check it out.

Like the photos of architecture from PA. Doesn't make me want to live there though.

You could do the very same for Chicago. There's no harm in loving and being proud of where you come from. I've always wanted to visit Northern Illinois (including other communities like Galena and Rockford), and if people from that state posted as many images of THEIR area as I do of mine, just think of how beneficial that would be to your community's image.

I've always had very positive images of Oregon in my mind, so the images in this thread did little to sway me. However, if all of my pictures encourage at least one person to stop bashing PA and give it a second chance, then I'd consider that to be worthwhile.

I'm eager to see hundreds of images of Chicago as well, if you have them. Other than that ugly spire they're building, I'm a huge fan and am excited about the potential of visiting within the next few years!

People who live here take our historic architecture for granted. You don't see many images like these in the Sunbelt, even though many people in these areas like to brag about how much "better" they are than those of us who have consciously chosen to reside here in the Rust Belt.

Ditto for Oregon. I LOVED that image of the Prius spattered in bumper stickers---you don't find very many bumper stickers at all in my area other than an occasional "Bush/Cheney" one (or my own "My Dog Digs Scranton" one).

LOL

Was just givin ya crap, you know that. I could post hundreds of images of Chicago, but I dont have time right now. Your best best is to just Google "Chicago images" and then click on "images" and knock yourself out. Youll find thousands upon thousands of pages.

Here you go:

I laughed when I read some of your posts on Portland for your interesting choice of "facts."

How long has it been since you were in Portland anyway? For anyone interested in reading some interesting (and more realistic) info about Portland from a source outside of Portland, check out the multiple NYT articles recently on some of the great things about Portland. They're way more informative and accurate than Monumental's interesting opinions.

Re: diversity. Portland and Oregon is definitely not diverse by the standards of a place like San Francisco (where I grew up), but diversity here is increasing dramatically and is up to 50% non white in some towns and at this point I think the city of Portland is about 75% white. Obviously not diverse again by standards such as LA and SF but to say it has zero diversity is pretty lame.

About the attacking other cities, thing, and defending your own......I could say the same about you, (but I won't) I don't care. It's just one mans opinion on one place wich is fine with me.

I stated what I saw, and what I got from Portland.........and it was something I don't like, .......and the city offers me little to nothing I look for in a big city.

no night scene, no vibe, no big city flavor, that small town slow pace feel, is not what I call a city. IMO....because that is not my style.

Thats what Portland feels like, and looks like to me!

People attack L.A. all the time, and that is my second home, that I trully love as much as Seattle. Half of if not most of my family is from L.A. I have a place there. (I think the L.A. attacks come from people who really want in IMO) But that's another topic.

You were right about one thing though: Seattle's metro is about the same as the entire state of Oregons population not more (yet)

State of Oregon population - 3,421,399

Seattle - CSA 3,991,911
MSA - 3,263,497

note these numbers are two years old. The CSA should be over 4 million now and the MSA around 3.4+ or so.

• The Space Needle had the second revolving restaurant in the world. The first one was in the Ala Moana shopping mall in Hawaii (now closed). There are now hundreds of turntables throughout the world.

So the space needle was the second one ever or what ever..........(Who on earth knows of the first one?) The space needle is an Icon, that countless cities have coppied. It's just a fact. It's the most famous of it's kind, and completely the symbol of Seattle.

Back to cities.

I'm a New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Vancouver, B.C. type of guy. Do you really think Portland fits in this category?

I think Portland should stick to it's small town feel, because for that part it does well I think. They get good press for doing little things well. (Don't try to keep up with the big boys, or try to be Seattle IMO) continue to do you.

Big City.......is just what..... it simply is not. Nothing wrong with that.

By the way, that ocean picture was breathtaking.

Personally I like seeing people rep their cities, (even though we all know some you wouldn't write home about) but that's cool.

Just don't go overboard with it, and take things personal like your city is your fisrt born. It's sad, there are people on this forum, I just choose to pay no attention to because they are that ridiculous. You seem a bit brighter.

There are aspects in other cities I wish Seattle had, no one city is perfect. Some are just damn near close though

Breathe easy

Yeah, better is such a subjective term. Your area has far more charm than the areas I prefer. I just prefer warm weather/ocean- but I can definitely see the Norman Rockwell charm of your area.
