I need advice. I have a boxwood hedge on one side of the house that's been neglected for awhile. It's about ten feet tall and overgrown with vines. I want to cut it back to five feet and strip out all the vines, but I'm not sure the middle of this hot summer is a great time for the plant. Has anyone had experience cutting a boxwood hedge back so much, and what is a good time of year?
Depending on the variety of Buxus some can grow up to 20 feet. Cutting it back now in this tremendous heat spell would not be a very good idea. You will burn newly exposed tender foilage.
