We are headed to FC next week and looking to camp for most of the days we are out there. Might stop in a hotel a night or two. We have a small pop up camper and a tent but would like to stay where there is a decent shower house. We really don't want to stay at a commercial campground. I've been looking at Boyd Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir as options, but there must be local favorites or best kept secrets...

Could any locals give me suggestions of a great camping spot for our family (we have 3 children) with great views, close to Fort Collins (husband going on a job interview) and decent bathrooms/shower?

Thanks!

Best bets for camping with showers are Horsetooth Reservoir or the KOA at the mouth of the Poudre Canyon. Lots of other good camping, but more rustic and without showers.

I agree with Mike here. It's difficult to find camping with full services, such as showers, in Colorado unless you stick to the more commercial campgrounds or state campgrounds. You might look at Boyd Lake State Park, but it's closer to Loveland than Ft. Collins.

You might consider the hotel for the night before the interview and then take off and experience more rural camping on the other days. Good luck either way.

Thank you for confirming that Horsetooth Reservoir is a good option with showers. That is what I researched online but I find that local advice is always best. I agree the best camping is the rustic, rural and remote areas (as other times we've camped in CO) but we are trying to also stay close to the city and check out the town for a possible relocation. We stay at a hotel close

Thanks !!

Next visit, or if we make the move, I'll be posting for the best rural camping suggestions!
