Hi,

I'm moving to FOCO in March, and am trying to find a house to rent. Craigslist doesn't seem to have much near downtown except apartments. What are some good sources to find rentals? Classified's sites? newspapers?

What I'm looking for:
-Location: I'm looking in the downtown/ old town area or a bit west of DT. No further south than Prospect.
-Type of house: Ideally 2/3 bedroom. Would consider an awesome one bedroom. I am looking for a HOUSE only (not an apartment)
-Price: $800-1300 a month (flexible up and down, depending on the house and situation)

any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Justin

try northerncoloradorentals.com too, they have several listings for houses in FoCo and you can filter for different areas of town. Best of luck!

I see signs for Armadillo rentals fairly often. I don't see them so much in Old Town, but I do see them just west of campus. Most rentals in old town seem to be owned by individuals who probably don't use a rental agency to advertise. Our next door neighbors put a sign on their front lawn with their phone number. They take a few phone calls, then they take the sign down and check out those folks. If they don't like any of them, they throw the sign back up. If you don't drive down the street, you'd never know there's a rental property there.

I hate to say it but you are moving to FC at a very bad time - the rental market here is very competitive to begin with - but most rentals are on year leases that start in Jun/Jul/Aug so the inventory is going to be limited at other times of the year - especially March. For this time of year Craigslist is your best bet - most of the property management companies will even post on Craigslist when they have "off season" openings. You can check out some of the larger apartment complexes that usually have something available - I know you dont want an apt but you can usually find vacancies there. If you could possibly find a sublet/room for rent for a few months your chances of getting into a place you will love will be greatly increased. But you may get lucky via Craigslist so keep looking - but places can get snagged fast. But the reason Craigslist seems not to offer much is because there isn't much available this time of year.

May through august is the prime time as the students leave, but sadly, you're right. Its incredibly competitive.
