2011 Ford Fiesta (U.S. Spec) First Drive - Motor Trend
Weight was slightly increased to meet US crash standards. Driving dynamics is very close to Euro speck Fiesta. A feature they loved was the autotransmission setting of L for low. What it does is hold the gear until near the redline before shifting. A negative was that the rear seat doesn't fold flat.

Those crazy Euros love their hatches...I'd personally rather drop my ducats and Spanish dabloons on a VW Scirocco, a Renault, or a Citroen hatch. That wretched sport model will sell due to it's Focus RS company link, but I really don't see what's so great about the Fiesta at all personally. It's way to "subcompact" looking and awkwardly bubbly to properly fit into any sort of sports segment. It's a commuter car that's being swiss army knife'd into a million different purposes and personalities...please see the Scirocco or even Focus RS for a proper "hot hatch" that truly fits the bill.
It's not that fugly in person. During the run of the LA Auto Show, i saw a promo vehicle on the road & it didn't seem as squashed & upright & Smart-ish as the pix make it look. Does anyone know if the Fiesta's dual-clutch transmission has paddle shifters like VW's GTI?
I like it, a definite step in the right direction. Why can't Ford figure out that flat folding seats increase utility for very little money/design effort? A very silly design miscue, and one that might effect my decision to buy. The devil is in the details.
