I really like what Ford has done with the Taurus beginning in 2010. It is surprising to me that they chose to resurrect the old namesake on a car that can really stand up on its own.
Now with 2013 comes a slight facelift and some changes in power train options.
Perhaps the most exciting is that in the non-SHO cars will be an available 2.0 Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine that gets 237 hp and 250 ft-lb of torque. While that motor may be a slug in a car that weighs in at 4000 lbs, Ford promises "at least" 31 MPG.
Also the base 3.5 V6 will increase hp from 263 to 290. Not too shabby for someone who is just looking for a nice, conservative but not too expensive 4-door sedan.
Perhaps most disappointing is that Ford has chosen not to alter the SHO power train. The 3.5 V6 remains unchanged at 365 hp and 350 ft-lbs of torque. Not bad, really but I was hoping to see Ford really juice it up.
I like it. I have three kids now and my Mustang's days are numbered. The new Taurus is a car I wouldn't mind driving if I choose to go the 4-door sedan route. I've considered smaller SUVs (4Runner) and pickups (F-150/Tacoma). Ford is making it tough for me to make up my mind!
Normally I would agree with you there. But I am getting ready to move to the East Coast and will be driving in some ugly traffic, which can be frustrating in a 5-speed. Before I spend $$$ on a new car though I am going to wait and see how my commute is. If the commute is not too insufferable and if my wife and I can put off replacing my Mustang due to family size, I'll keep it for a few more years.
It will do well in the rental and fleet car world. It is a much improved car from the old Taurus (I had several as company cars).
